Plumas Eureka Fire Department

We are part of the Plumas Eureka Community Services District, providing fire & rescue service, along with water and sewer to our community, since 1982. We are located in the north-eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains in Plumas County, California at an elevation of approx. 4,600 feet. To our west, several miles up the hill, is the beautiful Plumas Eureka State Park, and the historic gold mining town of Johnsville. The Ski Hill, now in the State Park, was the birthplace of ski racing in America, back in the 1860's when miners raced with "Longboards." We are proud providers of EMS to the three annual historic ski races held annually, assuming there is good snow. We enjoy four distinct and beautiful seasons, including cool springtimes, warm summers, colorful and cool falls, capped off by rainy and snowy winters.

We are a fully volunteer FD, and are proud to have joint training and automatic aid with our immediate neighbors in the Mohawk Valley, the Graeagle Fire Protection District. We believe in regional, cooperative efforts for the good of all, through the Plumas County Fire Chiefs Association, and are active leaders in those efforts. Like the Fire Chiefs Association, we believe in making things better, rather than complaining. We operate two Type 1 Engines, one Rescue, one Type 3 Wildland engine, and one command vehicle. Stop by to see us every Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend on the Saturday morning prior, when our Auxiliary sponsors our Pancake Breakfast fund-raising events. Sparky visits and hangs out, to say hello and share fire safety information, and we sell fire department t-shirts and hats. We look forward to seeing you.

We are proud to have an automatic aid agreement with the Graeagle FPD, and weekly joint training. This group photo is from 2007, when the agreements started. Only seven people remain from the time this photo was taken - regular turnover is common in volunteer FD's, but we also have some long-time members.
