Flipping Pancakes for Funding VFD's

Every year across America Volunteer FD's hold fund-raising events such as a "Pancake Breakfast". This is almost always to supplement basic funding for fire equipment and operations. In Plumas County, our fund-raising ranges from spaghetti feeds, to taco dinners, to operating thrift shops, to selling t-shirts and other clothing, to steak dinners and other events. Most of us also recruit for new firefighters or support members year-round, and often at the fund raising events.

This week we are posting a video from 2002 featuring fire service icon and historian Chief Ronny J. Coleman. He visited the Memorial Day Weekend Pancake Breakfast on May 25, 2002 at the Plumas Eureka VFD in Blairsden, CA. Ronny gives an overview of VFD fund-raising in this short video.

Join us this Saturday morning from 8am-11am for the Labor Day Weekend Pancake Breakfast supporting PEFD, led by our fabulous Auxiliary!

There will be two memorials this weekend for long-time local Fire Chiefs Andy Anderson of Quincy, and Joe Marin of Loyalton. Both were very loyal and dedicated servants to their communities for many decades.

Saturday, August 20 at 3pm there will be a memorial in Loyalton for Chief Marin. From Robert DeMartini of Loyalton FD: "We would like to have as many Fire Engines as possible from surrounding areas to pay tribute to Chief Marin, who served our community for 40 years. Would like to have all Fire Fighters in uniforms. Thank you for what you are doing for our fallen fire fighters. They deserve this. Please contact the Fire Depts. In your area for me to see if they would bring and engine. We will meet at the Loyalton High School at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday Aug 20, 2016  and line up to make a procession to the Sierra Brooks Lodge where the Memorial will be held. Parking will be a problem at Sierra Brooks but hopefully we can make do. Chief McCaffrey has offered to cover calls for us before and during the Memorial. That is much appreciated."

On Sunday, August 21 there will be a memorial for Chief Andy Anderson of Quincy. From Chief Robbie Cassou: Chief Richard G. "Andy" Anderson passed away Monday August 1, 2016 at Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. Chief Anderson served as Chief of the Quincy Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years and was well respected throughout the State of California for his dedication to the fire service and rural volunteer fire departments in particular.

In addition to the fire service, Andy served Plumas County as the County Fire Warden and the head of Plumas County's Office of Emergency Services. Andy was a familiar face and voice through his work with the Plumas County Fair as well as entertaining all of us with his morning radio show. Andy along with his wife Gayle operated the Anderson Mortuary in Quincy and served many families in their time of need.

Location: Feather River College Multi-Purpose Building 570 Golden Eagle Avenue, Quincy, Ca 95971
Date: Sunday August 21, 2016      Time: 11:00 AM
Emergency vehicles and aircraft are also welcome for static display. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP, Contact Robbie Cassou at (530) 249-1539 Cell, or by email at robbie.quincyfire@sbcglobal.net.

In a storybook finish yesterday on a very hot day, the Quincy Fire Protection District Muster Team won the overall competition by besting the Eastern Plumas Rural Fire Protection District joint Team with Chester FD in the Water Polo/Water Fight Finals.

The two teams were tied overall going into the last event, and it came down to the final water polo/waterfight to determine the overall winner, with Quincy winning the 3rd and final round.

To read all about it and see the results and team photos, go to the Muster page under our More Menu, or click the button below. More photographs will be uploaded soon.

A great time was had by all, and we fully intend on doing it again next year.
